FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE NEW TO THIS SITE / THE HUMANITIES INITIATIVE:
Here’s a brief introduction to what THI is about!

i carry your he(art)
Please view the individual artworks for auction here!

Alternatively, you may download our compiled catalogue of works for auction here!

Our Guest-of-Honour at the event is Professor Cham Tao Soon, one of the founding Presidents of the Nanyang Technological University. He turned the engineering facility into a world-class learning institute. Aside from that, he also used to serve on the Raffles Institution Board of Governors.

We look forward to seeing you at i carry your he(art)!

1. i carry your he(art)

Date: 25th – 26th April 2009, Saturday & Sunday
Official launch & auction: 25th April, 4pm
Venue: The Arts House, 1 Old Parliament Lane

These are the final dates! Sorry for the repeated changes – please mark your schedules & come down :)

Also, have a look here for some of the artworks that are on auction! Our official catalogue will be out soon – please check back as we will upload a version of it online.

Finally, a huge THANK YOU to the Lee Foundation for generously sponsoring us! Together with our other two sponsors – the very charitable Tote Board and MCL Land.

2. Visiting + memoir project
And this is the project that we should really be givig a proper name to – because it sounds extremely awkward having a title like the above. The first week of visiting has been rather fun – everyone has more or less found a friend. We hear stories of all kinds – from childhood eating haunts to teenage dating experiences. Even the elderly had their time of being young and frivolous :P

lots of he(art)s,
THI.

EDIT: AAAND, there has been great changes in the events calendar yet again! This is undoubtedly, unmistakably final. The Art Auction will now be held over two days only – 25th – 26th April 2009. The official launch & auction will take place at 4pm on Saturday (the 25th), while the sale of student artworks & the exhibition will stretch over both days. Mark your calendars again, and see you there!

Three main things for today / this month:

1. i carry your he(art) – art auction
Firstly, the auction has been brought forward – it will now be held on 24th-26th April 2009! This is excellent news because we get the weekend; MARK ALL YOUR CALENDARS & GET SET TO GO. The exhibition/auction will be held in the Arts House, which is modern & classy (everyone will definitely love the place!). In particular we have been kindly allotted a beautiful side room for our main launch on Friday, sofas & all :)

A professional auctioneer has been sourced; three paintings from Mr Sim Lian Huat and Mr Tan Kian Por now sit in Kuoying’s home; in the meantime we are speaking to other museum-y personnel about publicity outreach. In advance, THI would like to thank everyone who might be giving us their support: the people at the Arts House, MCL Land for their extremely generous and kind sponsorship, and even a consultant who we will be meeting next week.

2. Carwash
We are exploring the idea of a carwash later on next to raise funds for all our projects. I think we were very enthusiastic about the idea of a bake sale last year, which has (oh dear) faded off! But no matter, because now that the J1s are present THI is now a larger community with greater manpower :)

3. Block cleaning / visits
First block cleaning of the year over (today)! Yay for the attendance. The next one will be held on April 04, 2009 so mark your calendars as well! In the meantime, visits will likely start in Week 9 so take note of your schedules, which Camilla will be sending out soon.

Hello again from CL3! Robert has spat out (after much angst and prodding) a stack of letters to assorted sponsors, and we have eaten cherries (good), and listened to the Beatles (better), and taken various photographs of Claire enjoying a rompabout with Robert (unsurprising). Such productivity!

At present, Claire repeatedly expresses her burning desire to eat a mudpie and Kuoying agonizes over her undone Lit homework.

You know you love us!

xoxo
Camilla Claire Hongjie Kuoying!

Right at this moment we are sitting in RJCL3 (or more accurately, RIJCL3) and attempting to churn out anything that is remotely.. productive. After almost an hour of trying to open the lab. As hinted in the title, only 57.1% of the committee are present. Hong Jie is currently discombobulated over his inability to get the printer to function. Claire is updating the main page of this. All of us are dying to eat lunch (except Kaiyan, who stares pathetically on as I have stolen her computer).

Real updates: At the moment Care Corner is not answering many of Camilla or my phone calls, but we will be organising a visit to CC for block cleaning as soon as possible. As far as the Art Auction is confirmed, the main committees have all been set up. We have been hard at work trying to procure artists – and this has been nothing short of interesting, what with trying to speak Chinese after months of no-use – and we are pleased to announce that we have 20 professional art pieces, in addition to another 7 student art works! And we are making way in finding sponsors – sending out almost a 100 letters.

School is starting in a week and the J1s are enrolling in a month – and we are looking forward to the new members of our THI family. All in the spirit of making things fun :D

Anyone up for THI paraphenalia? Shirts, hats, a MEGA GLOVE OF POWER.

xoxo
Audrey, Kaiyan, Claire and Hong Jie.

postscript:
Claire: WHEEEEEEE! (which is what she has been saying the entire day)
Kaiyan: Merry Christmas & Happy Hanukkah :)
Hong Jie: HOW DO YOU GET TO THE PRINTER TO WORK!?!?!?

RJHUMANITIES’09: In the meantime, we are ironing out details regarding the Art Auction, the Service Learning (SL) project next year and the Busking Initiative. It has been confirmed that the auction will take place betweenthe 26th – 28th April 2009, and is very exciting! Now, we just have to make this amazing idea become reality.
